Becoming A Successful Entrepreneur

Whether you dream of owning your own small business or of creating the next big global enterprise brand, there’s a lot of skill and work that goes into becoming a successful entrepreneur. If you’re thinking of making the move to working for yourself, read on. One of the first things you need to have in place is a good idea as, without this, you’ll be nowhere. You also need the skill to turn that idea into reality, so an element of practicality is essential.

This takes commitment and dedication on your part as it can often take a long time before even the best of ideas come to fruition. You may want to give consideration to the following things: do you care enough about your idea to work on it for free until it starts to come good? Are you willing to sacrifice your social life if you have to put in long hours to make things work? Are there any areas where you could make cutbacks to focus on your dream?

If you conclude that you indeed have the commitment, then you should be prepared for a lot of hard work. Ideas don’t magically transform into successful enterprises overnight. You need to put the hours in to make sure you have all the necessary structures in place that will help your enterprise be both sustainable and innovative. You also need to work to put the idea out there and make sure that people hear about you and all the work you do.

A key attribute of any successful entrepreneur is flexibility. If things don’t work first time around, you need to be able to understand why and adapt your idea to suit the relevant business environment or change it if it’s not marketable in its current form. This will also help with your sustainability as it means you will be able to develop your ideas as you progress and your business idea will move with the times rather than getting stuck in the past.

On top of this, it’s vital for entrepreneurs to be ‘people’ people, as without vital skills of networking and meeting people, you will have a hard time finding support and investors. Getting investors on board is often crucial so make sure you know how to market yourself, your business and your skills. Also give some thought to timing as, no matter how great your idea is, enter the marketplace at the wrong time and it might flop, which also makes a positive outlook crucial in hard times.

A Satirical Look Online

Satire can either be spectacular or dull. It can be witty or it can be conceited. You either have it or you have not got it. The problem is that there are far too many people that believe that they are satirists. They then present the most appalling drivel to the public without any threat of imprisonment. As far as I am concerned bad satire deserves severe punishment. In that category I include the tasteless jokes that are presented on some meager websites that have nothing of substance to say about anything. Happily the readership of such websites is steadily declining.
Nevertheless it is possible to make a lot of money online using satire. We love to be amused by people that take their life too seriously. Take for example the celebrities that come out to say that they are not gay until someone opens up a real life story on them. You also have the politicians that do the exact opposite of what they are supposed to do. I particularly liked that evangelical politician that was caught soliciting a policeman. The delicious hypocrisy generated plenty of traffic and publicity. For such people I have very little sympathy because they are to blame for their woes.
The time when satire becomes unsustainable is when it attacks ordinary members of the public. Some of this satire ridicules them in front of the world when they do not really understand what they are doing. That is when intervention might be in order. The people that write satire like to feel that they are unrestrained. They are artists that do not deal with the ordinary conventions that govern human relationships. That is true until they are presented with a hefty lawsuit. The new entrepreneur has to be cautious about such activities.
I would not expect that you will rush out of here and start writing a satirical blog. You might use it to vent your anger but you have to also consider the implications of what you are doing. If the victims of that satire have a way of getting back at you they will use it with vigor. You have to ensure that you are in a position to protect your interests from unnecessary intrusion. That might imply that you actually turn down golden opportunities to expose your satirical acumen. However if you have the right backing then you can really build up a nice following in this area.

Does Your Business Need Elegant Wood Display Tables?

Does Your Business Need Elegant Wood Display Tables?

Every business can benefit from a three-tiered square wood display table. Whether it’s for showing off merchandise, putting in the display window, or creating a cozy nook where customers can gather and relax, a three-tiered square wood display table is the perfect complement to your store.

Just consider all the uses of a three-tiered square wood display table.

Do you have a flower shop? A three-tiered table is perfect for a display of cut flowers and potted plants, as well as vases, garden tools, and decorative statuary. Arrange plants over several tables, by color, by size, by family, and create a lush, garden-like atmosphere that will have customers pulling out their wallets.

Do you manage a bookstore? The possibilities for bookstore displays are endless. Get a different square wood table and create a display of the newest releases for each genre you sell: biographies, politics, spirituality, novels. Or consider a display of local authors, or maybe some copies of a book from your most recent book signing. Coordinate book displays with the release of a new movie. The three-tiered square wood display table is ideal.

Do you own a clothing store? Consider setting up a thematic clothing display on your square wood display table. Jeans and slacks, nicely folded and laid on a table, catch the eye. In the spring, create a display with light colors and rain slickers. In the fall, dark sweaters and woolly socks. Purses, belts, or sunglasses would fit perfectly on a three-tiered square wood table.

Do you have a shoe store? Use a three-tiered square wood table for your seasonal displays of shoes and other footware. Better yet, set out some of those items we all need, but don’t always remember to get: socks, shoe shine, shoelaces.

Do you manage a candy shop? A three-tiered square wood display table can display so much candy there’s hardly a need for anything else. Set out some display jars-like plastic fish bowls or acrylic candy bins-and give free samples. Make a display to feature your candy of the month. Or set out some promotional literature about your store, especially if you give discounts or have a membership card.

Three-tiered wood display tables are so versatile, they can be used almost anywhere, by almost anyone! Why don’t you get a three-tiered wood display table today? Just think of all the things you’ll be able to do!

4 Simple Tips for Selling on eBay

Finding something to sell on eBay can seem daunting at first, but these 4 tips for selling on eBay may simplify things for you…

~ Tips for Selling on eBay #1: Utilize your hobbies

Crafts and hobbies are a big market! However, before you jump in headfirst, make sure you do some research to back up the feasibility of your idea. eBay is a numbers game, so no matter how great your idea is, it will not work if there’s not enough people interested! So be sure to use eBay’s “completed listings” search, and test the market with some samples first!

~ Tips for Selling on eBay #2: Research newspapers and magazines

Just browsing the headlines can show you trends and styles, and can often be enough to spark a new idea!

Sit down with a pen and notebook and skim the pages of popular magazines and daily newspapers. You could probably come up with a list of 10 ideas by the time you’re finished!

~ Tips for Selling on eBay #3: Search through eBay Seller Central

eBay itself has a fantastic resource in the Seller Central area entitled: “What’s Hot?” Every month, a list of hot, very hot, and super hot items are published!

This is a great way to find ideas, but remember that everyone else on eBay also has access to this information!

~ Tips for Selling on eBay #4: Find out what buyers are buying

A good way of expanding your product range is by “spying” on your buyers! After making a sale, check your buyer’s feedback and find out what other items they’ve been purchasing recently!

This will help you get to know what your target market is interested in, thereby helping you to expand your range accordingly!

These 4 tips for selling on eBay may make finding something to sell a little more simple. Once you think of one idea, plenty of others will quickly follow!

Brief Experiences on How I Started Making Money Online

In 1996 I began selling products in the mail via the old-fashioned mail order business. All this changed however, when I came across the internet. The possibility of making money by selling information and products online became clear to me. This trade is a very convenient business for people such as me, with little money, space, and a family to support. Before this epiphany would escape me I purchased a domain name online to begin my business.

The beginning stages of this project was very difficult since I alone had to type and prepare all of my web pages. I had to come up with my own strategy of playing the market. I had to personally handle ever order and every shipping aspect of the trade as well as anything else that might come up.

At first I only had about 20 books to sell in my little endeavor. I sent catalogues, did everything in my power to get clients while trying to balance everything with my life outside the web. My frustration grew and seeds of doubt overcame me. Should I continue attempting this in hope for success? One day I decided to sign up for a book drop-shipping program hoping and relentlessly trying to increase the variety and amount of products my website had to offer and perhaps see if this would increase my volume of sales. I even starting advertising in the pay-per-click search engines. Alas, order began to come, slowly but surely. There were not very many orders, maybe a handful every two weeks but this was exactly what I needed to push me and motivate me to continue my little business.

Out of 700 books that were being offered at QualityBooks.com (mostly from the drop shipping program) just a small amount, approximately three were successful in sales. I devoted more time, money, and effort to market these books and before I knew it I was bringing in an acceptable monthly income!

The next stage in the process was to decrease the cost of my products. Instead of drop shipping the orders, I haggled the prices of my best sellers and was able to market low prices for them. Then I ordered larger numbers to buy them at a wholesale price. The product was being delivered directly to my improvised home office rather than being drop-shipped. I began to run out of space and sacrificed some room in my home for storage, and it turned out to be worth it! When you ship the items yourself, the control of your business increases significantly. I could track my orders properly and tinker with all the aspects of the sales first-hand.

But why sell others books when I could sell books of my own? This does not imply that I actually wrote these books, instead, I bought the reprint rights to legally make them mine. Eventually and entire section of my website and income came from this small bookstore I had created. Every time this books were ordered, the profit margin was nearly 100% considering it cost close to nothing to print and bind them myself.

My little business was bringing my significant yearly income, developed from scratch, it fascinated me. It has grown to be so successful for me that I have even began to feel the temptation to quit my job as a public school science teacher and make this my full time job. An incredible sense of accomplishment has accompanied my through the entire process.

Do What You Love, But Make Sure the Money Follows

Of the 23 million businesses in the U.S., 17 million of them are solo entrepreneurs with no employees. Over 600,000 brave souls are starting their own business as a solo business owner every year. I’m really thrilled that more and more people are stepping away from the large corporations, striking out on their own, and following their bliss as Joseph Campbell puts it. It’s a huge part of the success equation to love what you do. Your passion will shine through and your energy is electric as you help others with your expertise.

But not everyone will make it.

Why do some experts who do what they love succeed wildly while others languish? I believe it’s because of fear and not because of lack of planning or lack of skills like the Small Business Administration reports. Hear me out; I know we hate to talk this stuff, but it’s costing you plenty if you’re not dealing with it.

There’s another skill you really need to succeed in business besides your expertise, and it’s a skill most of us love to hate: marketing. Fifteen years ago, we could get by without it. But not today. And especially not in the last 18 months. In addition to being great at what you do, you have to get the word out about you and your business. You have to be a smart marketer (or you have to hire one), in addition to your core expertise.

So where does fear come in? Because we hate marketing, we don’t do it. We hate putting ourselves out there, exposing ourselves to rejection and vulnerability. We approach marketing emotionally and often with fear and trepidation. This causes us to make poor choices, fail to plan, and spend our marketing money unwisely.

This fear and lack of execution in marketing leaves tens of thousands of dollars on the table each year that could otherwise have boosted our revenues. What’s worse, that money was probably spent on someone who was not as expert as you but was simply a better marketer. This should make you mad; I know it does me.

The truth is that marketing can be learned, systematized, measured and improved just like anything else in business. But we just don’t approach it rationally because fear gets in our way and clouds our otherwise good business judgment.

Do what you love, but make sure the money follows by being smarter about both your marketing decisions and whatever personal growth issues you need to address around marketing. If you hate marketing, examine why you do, and get the tools you need to adopt a more resilient thinking pattern about it. It’s an important part of the success equation for those of us who want to stay in business for the long haul.

If you have to, get mad. Then get yourself known and get clients. When you embrace marketing, you’re likely to see a huge growth jump in both yourself personally and your business’s bottom line.

Five Cs of Business Startup Success

Most people are familiar with the 4 Cs of diamond quality, but are you familiar with the five Cs of business startup success? Keep these five things in mind while starting a business.

1. Courage — Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. Successful entrepreneurs are not afraid to fail, not afraid to learn new things, and not afraid to change direction. Courage is critical every step of the way, because startups don’t leave time for indecision or fear. Successful entrepreneurs require the courage to do what needs to be done, even if some discomfort or risk is necessary.

2. Confidence — Often, the courage found in entrepreneurs is driven by confidence. The belief that one is better, faster, and stronger than all the others is very motivating and makes it easier to deal with setbacks and frustrations. Confidence allows an entrepreneur to quickly become comfortable with new information and new circumstances, and is an important factor in effective marketing. Confidence allows entrepreneurs to be creative in dealing with problems and to avoid becoming discouraged during the darker times inevitable in any startup.

3. Commitment — Business success doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t happen for free. Entrepreneurship requires significant commitment of time, money, and energy to even get off the ground. It takes time, money, and energy to learn everything you need to know about your industry, market, and business fundamentals. It takes time, money and energy to reach the critical mass of potential customers to drive sales. A true commitment to succeed provides motivation and a true commitment to starting up the right way increases the chances of success. Commitment to a startup is absolutely necessary — without commitment, a great business idea will remain just that — an idea.

4. Cash — No legitimate business can be launched on zero dollars. While there are free resources available (advice, web-hosting, informational sites), you almost always get what you pay for — nothing for nothing. A serious entrepreneur needs to purchase tools and resources for planning and management, marketing elements, and production. They need enough cash to live on during the Pit of Despair (the time between launch and actual sales can be weeks to months depending on the business model, even longer to reach profitability). Even if an investor is ready and willing to back a startup, the entrepreneur needs to put up their own resources to complete the planning process before accessing the outside funding. No savvy investor is going to write a check without evidence of the viability of the business. “Free startups” are unrealistic and, really, ridiculous. Considering that starting a business is likely the most important life decision most people will make, it is absurd to expect success to come for free.

5. Character — The image and culture of a startup is wholly encompassed within the owner, and any lack of character will quickly be revealed in the course of business. Honesty and integrity are critical — the consumer public has had enough of corporate thievery and greed. And, with the current recession unleashing a virtual assault on working Americans, employees are likely to be far less tolerant of unfair practices and unreasonable expectations at work. Good character is not optional!

The quality of a diamond is defined by the 4 Cs. The Five Cs of startup success — courage, confidence, commitment, cash, and character — will determine the quality of your business.
